John Drinkwater (1882-1937) lived in Nottingham 1898-1901

Graham Greene (1904-1991) November 1925- March 1926 Nottingham. Plaque on former office building of Nottingham Journal in Upper Parliament Street, erected in 1996 to commemorate 100 years of the cinema. Lodged at Ivy House, (probably No. 2) All Saint's Terrace.

D H Lawrence (1885-1930) born at Eastwood, ed. Eastwood and Nottingham. Born Victoria Street, now a museum in honour of Lawrence. 1887-1891 57 Breach Street, now 28 Garden Road. 1891-1903 Walker Street. 1903-11 97 Lynncroft. Died in Venice. His tombstone is decorated with Lawrence's emblem the Phoenix, designed in seashore pebbles by the Veneois Dominique Matteucci is now at Eastwood.

J.R.Tolkien (1892-1973) 1914 Stayed at his Aunt's farm, Phoenix Farm, Gedling (demolished)
